A hashtag—written with a # symbol—is used to index keywords or topics on Twitter.
This function was created on Twitter, and allows people to easily follow topics they are interested in.
Hashtags have quickly become a regular part of our daily lives - with even tv adverts, posters and songs containing them.
Hashtags are a great way of getting everyone talking about the same topic, be it cultural, political, news or even personal.
There are a lot of hashtags daily which change constantly, so it can be hard to find the right one. In general, you should be using hashtags if it's something people are already talking about (#MotivationMonday) because this will allow you to join the conversation.
Alternatively, it can be something you want people to be talking about (#FinancesFriday) there's no telling if your hashtag will take off, but sometimes it's worth being a little creative.
